Getting married is one of the most momentous occasions in life, and you have about a million things on your mind as you plan for this special day. You’re going to be the focus of a lot of attention—and pictures—when you say your “I do’s,” and you want your skin to look as good as possible. That process doesn’t start overnight, though, and it shouldn’t wait until the last minute, either. Here’s a timeline of what to do to ensure you have glowing skin when the big day gets here.

8 Weeks Before the Wedding

If you’re considering cosmetic corrective procedures, schedule them no later than two months before your wedding day. Lip injections, dermal fillers, skin tone–evening lasers, and other professional procedures can go beyond what skincare alone can accomplish, but they require downtime afterward.

If you’re new to cosmetic procedures, seek out a cosmetic dermatologist or other skincare professional who can explain what’s best to address your concerns, as well as the pros and cons of each. Don’t wait to do this until right before the wedding, because there can be side effects that take a while to fade.

6 Weeks Before the Wedding

Now is the time to start a great skincare routine that you can maintain even after the big day. Before selecting products, determine your skin type and skin concerns (such as acne or redness). Once you’ve done this, it will be much easier to figure out exactly what you need.

Starting your skincare routine this far ahead of your wedding gives your skin ample time to reap the benefits of using well-formulated products—plus you have time to fine-tune your routine based on how your skin responds.

From here on in, don’t schedule any facials or chemical peels, either at the spa or from a dermatologist. It might seem like a good idea to have these treatments closer to your wedding, but such services always come with a chance of unexpected reactions that could linger anxiously close to your wedding day.

Opt instead for a gentle, at-home AHA or BHA exfoliant to reveal radiant skin. Continued, daily use of these products will result in clearer, smoother, softer skin that you’ll be inspired to maintain even after you’ve exchanged vows.

4 Weeks Before the Wedding

It’s time to start thinking about the rest of you! This is true for every wedding, but it’s a particular consideration if you’re having a destination or beach wedding where you might be showing off more skin.

If getting rid of body acne is a concern, try a salicylic acid spray that conveniently works to keep body blemishes at bay. If you have patches of rough, bumpy skin on arms and legs, a BHA or AHA body lotion can lead to smoother skin, as well as reduce redness.

If dry, flaky patches or rough elbows or heels are a problem, treat them to rich moisture with a luxurious body butter. Make sure you have soft, protected lips by using a lip balm with SPF during the day, and a super-emollient balm at night.

Last, but certainly not least, don’t forget your hands and nails! From exchanging rings to holding up your glass for toasts, your hands will be a focal point, so they need love, too. Treat them to an ultra-rich moisturizer at night and SPF during the day.

7 Days and Counting!

The big day is fast approaching and things are falling into place, but sometimes the sprint to the finish line can make your skin flare up a little. If you experience redness, consider a super-gentle, calming serum that provides quick relief and is easy to incorporate into your existing routine.

Last-minute blemishes a concern? Consider upping your BHA game with a concentrated, time-release formula designed to tackle tough, stubborn imperfections. It’s especially good for putting on just a few spots that might be your biggest concern, and helps soothe the appearance of redness, too.

Now you’re ready to look your best, not only on your wedding day, but also for many anniversaries to come!
